If CETA is passed into law, every Irish person will be affected in ways never imagined before:

  • Corporations will be able to sue our government
  • Food such as hormone injected beef will flood the Irish market.
  • Irish farming, the environment, and our health will also be in serious jeopardy.

Irish people do not want CETA:

  • 74% of people in Ireland want a referendum on TTIP and CETA.
  • 62% agree that EU standards should not be changed to match US or Canadian Standards.
  • 4 out of 5 people don’t think that US or Canadian Corporations should be allowed to sue EU Governments whose legislative changes affect their profits.

Red C opinion poll July 2016

Cut from the same cloth as TTIP, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is an international trade deal that hands over even more power to corporations. Legal expert Matthias Kelly has concluded that it would be illegal for the government not to have a referendum on certain aspects of these trade deals. Specifically, the part that allows corporations side-step our court system and sue the government in private.

Step 1: Call TDs (critical)

Fianna Fáil are deciding if they will support CETA or not. Right now it looks like they are ‘leaning towards supporting CETA’. A flood of calls to TD’s offices could be enough to stall them. Many of them are already unsure about CETA and will be likely to go for the safer option of postponing a decision.

Here are some talking points to help your call go smoothly:

1. Choose a number from the list of number below.

2. If you reach an answering machine or their assistant, that’s okay. You can leave your name and number and message you want passed on to the TD.

3. Say that you are a constituent and that you want Fianna Fáil to stand against CETA.

4. CETA will allow corporations to sue government for policies and laws that affect their profits

5. It will allow hormone injected beef to be sold in Ireland and will destroy our food quality and farming.

6. Remind the TD/staff that 74% of people in Ireland want a referendum on TTIP and CETA (Red C poll conducted last summer)

7. Stress how important it is that Irish politicians stand up for people not big business and that it is vital that this secretive and dangerous deal is not voted through by the Dail.

8. If you have any feedback or information you’d like to share send it here. https://uplift.typeform.com/to/coXPb5
